Shop & Share 2026

Shop & Share was on Saturday, February 7! Thank you to everyone who helped make the day a success! Stay tuned for the 2027 date.

Our largest volunteer-driven initiative, Shop and Share, is on Saturday, February 7, 2026.

Shop & Share is a one-day donation drive at grocery stores across Kentucky to support survivors of intimate partner abuse. You can “shop” for what you need and “share” a few items with your local domestic violence shelter.

Shoppers at participating Kroger locations in our 17-county service area donate enough non-perishable goods during the day to stock our shelter’s pantry for almost a year!

More than 100 volunteers are helping during the big day. They’ll be distributing our needs list at Kroger stores, delivering goods from stores across our service area to the shelter, and sorting the donations in our basement pantry.

Shop & Share is sponsored by Kentucky’s First Lady Britainy Beshear and organized in coordination with ZeroV, the state coalition of domestic violence programs, with the support of dozens of important partnerships across the state.

Volunteers Matter

Time & Talent

Michael Watts was first introduced to our organization when his wife discovered the farm while looking for flowers for their church’s garden exchange.

He soon began donating to the mission and volunteering to help with big community events like Shop & Share.

“I have three sisters, and women in many contexts are regarded as second class. That’s a great unfairness,” Michael says. “I volunteer to help lift up the women that come here.”

After retiring, Michael found more time to lend his hands on the farm, where his efforts have made a lasting impact. Recently he has been clearing a path and circle seating space in a wooded area on the property for residents.

“To me, taking a walk through the woods is a very calming and spiritual experience.”

Volunteer

Volunteer with us!

We’re grateful for the time and talent every person, group, and company gives. The efforts of volunteers expand our capacity to foster safety and healing for survivors of intimate partner abuse.

Opportunities to help at our emergency shelter and farm are offered monthly. Examples of shelter volunteering include sorting, organizing, cleaning, landscaping, and more. Examples of farm volunteering include weeding, planting, harvesting, pest mitigation, and more.

Individuals and groups can also give through remote projects that collect much-needed goods and remind survivors that our community cares about their well-being.

Current volunteer opportunities are listed here. After you book a project, Hallie, our community engagement specialist, will follow up with more details.

Cards of Encouragement

A few kind words can make a difficult day feel better. Writing notes of encouragement is a meaningful way to support survivors.

You can write a couple of cards or a bundle of many cards. This makes for a lovely way for your community, faith, or work group to support the mission. In addition to blank cards with encouraging notes, we also welcome cards for birthdays, Mother’s Day, and other holidays.

TIPS & IDEAS
  • Use a general salutation: Hello, Hi there, and Dear Survivor are good options.
  • Start with a sentence about why you’re writing the card:  This must be such a difficult time for you, and I wanted to let you know someone cares.
  • You don’t have to write a lot. Just a couple of lines can make a difference. Lean into celebrating the survivor’s strength and courage.
  • Close with a message of hope – maybe something like this: May your tomorrows be safer, brighter, and full of hope and possibilities.
  • Sign with your first name or first + last name, but please don’t include your address or phone number.

General messaging about prayer, faith, and spirituality can be meaningful. But please avoid including specific scripture or the promotion of a specific religion in your cards. Please also ensure your personal or work email, telephone, and mailing address are not included on the cards/envelopes.

FINAL STEP

When your cards are ready, bundle them up and mail to address below or send a note to Hallie to request driving directions to deliver the cards to our shelter.
